Lancelot Andrewes (), Bishop of Winchester, was on the committee of scholars that produced the King James Translation of the Bible, and probably contributed more to that work than any other single person.

Lancelot Andrewes was one of the great figures in the Church of England after the Reformation. One of the key figures in the translating and editing of the King James Bible, he was also a great theologian and, as this collection reveals, a great poet as well.

Lancelot Andrewes was an Anglican bishop and scholar who played a key role in the translation of the Authorised Version or King James Version of the Bible. Although he worked mainly through the reigns of Elizabeth I and James I successively, he is counted as one of the early Caroline Divines, known for their scholarship and devotional writings.

Andrewes was also one of the translators of the King James Bible. His Devotions, often called The Private Devotions of Lancelot Andrewes, were 4/5(1).
