This book is such a beautiful, frightening, vivid hallucination. After I read this book, I have weird dreams. I feel like I’m walking around in a fog because this book is so realistic, it leaves the real world looking a bit drab. ‘The Cygnet and the Firebird’, by Patricia A.

McKillip, is a fantasy story about two cousins, Nyx and Meguet/5(10). Not quite a sequel to The Sorceress and the Cygnet (), but set in the same intriguing fantasy world, and with some of the characters in common.

Meguet, cousin of the sorceress Nyx, stands guard outside a council meeting at Ro Holding when a powerful sorcerer gains entry to the chamber. Although lacking magic herself, Meguet somehow is able to resist the sorcerer's.

The Cygnet And The Firebird () About book: Most reviews that I've read of Patricia McKillip's Cygnet duology seem to express a strong preference for either The Sorceress and the Cygnet or the The Cygnet and the Firebird.

This should not be surprising. Despite sharing characters and a fantasy world, they have separate plot lines and widely varying tones. The first book is The Sorceress & The Cygnet; the second book is The Cygnet & The Firebird.

I have seen other reviewers state that these books are very confusing & difficult to understand. I will admit that the beginning of book #1 was hard to follow but I think that the author may have intended it this way because the main character's mind is /5(4).
